WTH, Nike? World Cup Coach’s Uniform Dishonors USA

At a glance

  • For every country, the World Cup is, among other things, a chance to celebrate its nation’s colors.
  • But not for the USA. Nike didn’t outfit USA head coach Gregg Berhalter in red, white and blue. Nope. Instead, the anti-American apparel behemoth outfitted Berhalter in a jet-black T-shirt that with a Nike swoosh and “States” across the chest – not “United States,” just “States.”
  • While Nike seems embarrassed by the country in which it has built its fortune, other World Cup competitors proudly display their countries’ colors.
