- Dearie is a former chief federal judge in New York and will serve as neutral arbiter of seized documents, according to a new court filing.
- Dearie was one of two Trump picks to be special master – a third-party observer to oversee the Justice Department’s examination of materials seized Aug. 8 by FBI agents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
- At issue, at least in part, will be what prosecutors can review and potentially use in their investigation, with the special master seeming to be authorized to weigh in on such matters as the classification of documents and other materials, include whether they might be classified or protected perhaps by attorney-client privilege.
