- “I thought it was terrible,” Trump said in South Carolina and one day after authorities released body-cam footage of Nichols being beaten by Memphis, Tennessee, police in connection with a traffic stoop.
- “He was in such trouble,” Trump also said about Nichols. “He was just being pummeled. Now that should never have happened.”
- The 29-year-old Nichols is a Black male, and five officer, who also are black, have been charged with murder in connection with the Jan. 7 incident.
- Nichols died three days later, on Jan. 10.
