Thanksgiving Protest Planned By Activists

Protestors plan to ‘shatter the untrue image of the Pilgrims’

  • On Thanksgiving, activists plan to gather for a “National Day of Mourning” at Plymouth Rock, in a stand against “racism and oppression” targeting indigenous people throughout history.
  • The annual protest is, according to the event’s website, “a reminder of the genocide of millions of Native people, the theft of Native lands and the erasure of Native cultures.”
  • Past demonstrations hosted by the United American Indians of New England have included burying Plymouth Rock “a number of times” and covering the statue of Mayflower passenger and Plymouth governor William Bradford with Ku Klux Klan sheets.
