Rising Democrat Stars Say Not Seeking Nomination If Biden Exits

Maryland Democrat Gov. Wes Moore said Sunday that he will not seek the Democratic nomination this year and he does not foresee President Biden leaving the race after his disastrous debate last week with GOP challenger Donald Trump.

“Joe Biden is not going to take himself out of this race – nor should he,” Moore said on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” making clear that he “will not” seek the nomination.

Moore is just 45, young for a presidential candidate, and in his first term as governor. But he received high marks and elevated his national profile for his handling of the fatal aftermath of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsing in May after a container ship exiting the Port of Baltimore struck it.

Politico reports Michigan Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer telephoned a senior Biden campaign official the night after the debate to convey a clear message: She hated the way her name was being floated as a replacement for Biden and she wasn’t behind the chatter.

The news outlet proclaims Whitmer, in her second term, is atop Democrats’ list to replace Biden, amid what Politico called the “Draft Gretch” chatter.
