Nearly 6K flights in, out U.S. canceled by Sunday

  • On first day on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, FlightAware reportedly showed at least 3,600 flights in and out of U.S. delayed and 145 such cancelled.
  • On Sunday, numbers were 1,748 such delayed and 174 cancelled.
  • In the first six months of 2022, 24% of U.S. flights were delayed, and 3.2% were canceled, Transportation Department data reportedly shows.
  • The airline industry’s problems have been attributed to several factors including shortage of pilots and pent up demand for travel as worst of pandemic appears to be over.
