In a Dec 21st memo, Southwest ground operations VP declared a “state of operational emergency” after realizing that an abnormally high number of workers didn’t show up to its base in Denver.
The airline ended up cancelling nearly 10,000 flights in the days after the memo, with an additional 2,500 cancelled on Wednesday.
“We have some real work to do in making this right. For now, I want you to know that we are committed to that,” said Southwest CEO Robert Jordan.
