Exec Warned Of ‘Operational Emergency’ Days Before Christmas Travel Meltdown

Someone tried to warn Southwest it was heading for disaster, but nobody listened!

  • In a Dec 21st memo, Southwest ground operations VP declared a “state of operational emergency” after realizing that an abnormally high number of workers didn’t show up to its base in Denver.
  • The airline ended up cancelling nearly 10,000 flights in the days after the memo, with an additional 2,500 cancelled on Wednesday.
  • “We have some real work to do in making this right. For now, I want you to know that we are committed to that,” said Southwest CEO Robert Jordan.
