• Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is striking back at a New York Times piece about gambling industry insiders with concerns about his past amidst his new spokesperson role in the industry he says is designed to make him look like a “scumbag.”
• Portnoy says when the writer asked for a comment and he agreed to have an on-the-record conversation with both sides recording the conversation: “She went ghost, crickets. I didn’t hear from her for seven months.”
• “Over a week before this story published, we presented Mr. Portnoy an opportunity to answer detailed questions about our reporting, which was thorough and fact-based,” the New York Times said in a statement after Portnoy’s remarks.
