“Pawn Stars” celebrity Rick Harrison says the cause of son Adam Harrison’s recent death was fentanyl overdose. He was 39.

The father said his son’s death highlights the need for greater seriousness in combatting the fentanyl crisis in the United States.

Harrison also called for more action to be taken against drug smuggling.

“It seems [fentanyl is just flowing over the borders and nothing is being done about it,” he also said.

In August 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that they had made 300% more seizures of the drug in the first four months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. Regardless of where it is produced, the drug is able to have a significant impact on users in just a tiny dose.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl were involved in almost 50,000 overdose deaths in 2019 alone.

Adam Harrison’s passing was confirmed on Friday.
