The Biden administration says the government will protect gay and transgender people against sex discrimination in health care. That reverses a Trump-era policy that sought to narrow the scope of legal rights in sensitive situations involving medical care. The Nassau County legislature on Monday approved legislation that will restrict girls’ sports teams from being allowed to use Long Island sports facilities if they have transgender women on their teams.

The move follows an order from Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman that faced a challenge from the New York attorney general, according to NBC News. Blakeman’s order was struck down in May, with a judge determining he didn’t have authority to impose the ban without legislative backing.
