Russia, Ukraine Blame Each Other For Attacks Near Nuke Plant

Russia, Ukraine on Sunday traded accusations about rocket, artillery strikes at or near Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

  • Strikes have heightened global fears of massive radiation leak.
  • Russian forces took control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after invading Ukraine in mid February.
  • In taking control of plant, Russian forces also took hold of adjacent territory along the left bank of Dnieper River.
  • Ukraine controls right bank, including the cities of Nikopol and Marhanets.
  • Russian Defense Ministry said Sunday that Ukrainian forces have attacked  plant twice in past day.
  • Governor of Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk oblast, or province, said Saturday that Grad missiles, artillery shells landed about six miles and across the river from plant.
