House Republicans – in a fierce standoff last week between conservatives and moderates – approved GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House speaker, but the rules packaged to which he agreed to get enough votes still need to be passed.
The vote is set for Monday, with at one member of the conference with is not among its most conservative members says he won’t support the existing rules package.
“I am a NO on the house rules package,” Texas GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales tweeted Friday.
After McCarthy was finally elected, at about midnight Friday, Florida Rep. Kat Cammack shouted, “There are no rules yet, baby!” as she took a video with her phone from the House floor.
