Largest US Teachers Union Puts $1M On Whitmer

The National Education Association (NEA), the largest teacher's union in the US, has donated $1 million to reelect Michigan Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

  • The NEA from 2011 to 2019 also contributed $1 million through it advocacy fund toward Whitmer’s political career, according to a review of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.
  • The United Federation of Teachers, the country’s other large teacher’s union, reportedly contributed $750,000 over the same period,
  • Whitmer, is a tough reelection bid against GOP challenger Tudor Dixon, has faced criticism this election cycle for supporting remote learning throughout the pandemic, a protocol largely supported by teachers unions.
  • A recent Education Department report showed a significant decline last year in student test scores that were attributed in part to remote learning.
