- A new criminal code approved by Indonesia’s parliament prohibits anyone in the country from having sex outside marriage.
- The laws will take effect in three years and will be applied to locals and foreigners residing in Indonesia, as well as tourists visiting holiday destinations such as Bali.
- Under the new criminal code, extramarital sex will carry a jail term of up to a year, unmarried couples living together could be jailed for up to six months, and adultery will also be a jailable offense.
