Powerful Republican incumbent Rep. Tom Cole won his primary in Oklahoma on Tuesday night according to the Associated Press, defeating one of the toughest and most expensive challenger campaigns of his 22-year Congressional career.

Cole, who chairs the House Appropriations Committee, advanced to November’s general election as the Republican nominee for Oklahoma’s fourth Congressional district, securing more votes than wealthy businessman Paul Bondar. Cole has served as the district’s representative for 10 terms.

Bondar, who has lived in multiple states but most recently moved from Texas, launched his unexpected campaign in March. He has focused on running a far-right campaign, with an emphasis on border security, inflation, and energy independence, according to ABC News. His biggest criticism for Cole was his support for foreign aid, including support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
