Half Moon Bay Shootings Sparked By $100 Repair Bill

The farmworker charged with killing seven people at two central California mushroom farms reportedly told investigators said was angry at the time because  his supervisor demanded he pay $100 to repair a forklift damaged at work.

  • The San Mateo County district attorney confirmed to the media alleged shooter Chunli Zhao was enraged by demand he pay, considering a co-worker was to blame .
  • The 66-year-old Zhao fatally shot four workers and wounded a fifth employee Monday at California Terra Garden, in San Mateo, California, about 30 miles south of San Francisco. Among them was the supervisor who demanded he pay the bill.
  • Zhao after the shooting then allegedly went to nearby Concord Farms, where he had worked previously, and fatally shot three former co-workers.
  • Zhao also said his complaints about having been bullied for years to work long hours on the farms were ignored.
