Following communist China’s severe Covid-19 lockdowns that led to the most significant protests in the country since 1989, Formula One axed the Chinese Grand Prix from its 2023 calendar.
Last year, F1 announced its intent to return to the Shanghai International Circuit after a three-year pandemic-induced hiatus.
A short statement issued by F1 said, “Formula 1 can confirm, following dialogue with the promoter and relevant authorities, that the 2023 Chinese Grand Prix will not take place due to the ongoing difficulties presented by the COVID-19 situation.”
