The FBI is using targeted Facebook ads to locate victims of “transnational repression” by the Chinese Communist Party.
Two Mandarin-language ads target Facebook users in the Philadelphia area.
The ads ask that anyone who has been targeted by physical or digital harassment, extortion, assault, or cyberstalking contact the local FBI field office.
The FBI said in a statement that “Many victims are not aware transnational repression is illegal,” and that they seek to educate communities about these crimes.
