DHS May Have Allowed Dangerous Afghans Into Country: IG Report

  • A DHS Inspector General found that some of the nearly 80,000 Afghans brought to the U.S. last year were not properly vetted and may pose national security risks.
  • “We determined some information used to vet evacuees through U.S. Government databases, such as name, date of birth, identification number, and travel document data were inaccurate, incomplete, or missing,” the OIG said in its Sept. 6 report (pdf).
  • The IG found that 7,800 records had missing or invalid travel document numbers, and more than 36,000 others had improper travel documentation.
