DeSantis Suspends Another Public Official From Office

Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis has suspended another public official from office, a Miami-Dade County commissioner arrested last month on felony charges

  • The commissioner was arrested for felony charges of “unlawful compensation for official behavior and conspiracy to commit unlawful compensation.”
  • Such acts are in violation of state statutes and are second- and third- degree felonies, the governor’s office said.
  • According to commissioner’s arrest warrant, the allegedly accepted a total of $15,000 in payments from a supermarket and property owner who was fighting a county ordinance and subsequent fines for being in violation.
  • Commissioner is the most recent to lose his job after the governor issued executive orders last month suspending four Broward County School Board members and State Attorney Andrew Warren, citing “neglect of duty” for vowing to not violators the state’s new abortion ban law.
