Delta Flight Makes Emergency Landing Over Contaminated Food

A Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was forced to make an emergency landing in New York early Wednesday after passengers were sickened by bad food.

The redeye flight landed at JFK airport at 4 a.m. “after reports that a portion of the Main Cabin in-flight meal service were spoiled,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.

It was not clear how many of flight 136’s 277 passengers ate the spoiled food or how many were sickened.

However, when emergency medical responders met the flight at FKF they treated 12 passengers, the FDNY said.

“This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels,” the Delta spokesperson said.

At least one passenger tweeted the airline during the layover seeking an update, which Delta said it would provide only in private messages.
