Australia, Canada, India, Japan, the United State and several European nations have announced tougher measures in recent weeks amid concerns over a lack of data on infections in China and fears about a new variants emerging – including passing a COVID test prior to boarding a flight.
China’s ruling Communist Party on Tuesday called the new restriction and suggested payback.
“We are firmly opposed to attempts to manipulate the COVID measures for political purposes and will take countermeasures based on the principle of reciprocity,” said China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
