• Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Mao Ning said during a press conference, “It has come to our attention that the vessel in question is from China.”
• Ning claimed that the second balloon was being used for civilian flight testing and that weather impacts as well as limited navigation capabilities caused the aircraft to stray from its course.
