• NASA’s Kennedy Space Center announced that a large piece of the destroyed space shuttle Challenger was discovered at the bottom of the Atlantic.
• The portion that was found is one of the largest pieces discovered in the more than three decades since the devastating tragedy that killed a schoolteacher and six others.
• The piece was discovered by divers for a TV documentary searching for records of a World War II plane and later verified by NASA.
