President on Sunday endorsed the California bill to expand union organizing rights for agricultural workers.
Bill is supported by labor organizers who are now pressuring Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign the legislation.
State lawmakers last week sent bill to Newsom that if signed into law would allow farmworkers to choose whether they want to vote in a union election in person, by mail or by submitting a card to state Agricultural Labor Relations Board office.
“In the state with the largest population of farmworkers, the least we owe them is an easier path to make a free and fair choice to organize a union,” Biden said Sunday.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, has asked Newsom to sign the bill.
