Biden Admin Creates Environmental Justice Office

Administration announced formation of the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights at an event Saturday in Warren, County, North Carolina, considered the birthplace of environmental justice

  • The office will distribute $3 billion in block grants to underserved communities burdened by pollution.
  • Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights is comprised of more than 200 current staff members in 10 U.S. regions.
  • The office will merge three existing EPA programs to oversee a part of the $60 billion investment in environmental justice initiatives created by the Democrat-led Inflation Reduction Act.
