Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson ‘Suffering From Dementia,’ Placed Under Conservatorship

Legendary musician and co-founder of The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, has been placed under a conservatorship arrangement to assist with his health and welfare. The 81-year-old singer-songwriter’s health has seen a significant decline following the unfortunate passing of his wife, Melinda Ledbetter Wilson, last month.

Family members recently disclosed that Brian Wilson will be under the guardianship of two family representatives who have been appointed as co-conservators. The candid communication from the Wilson family highlighted the emotional and challenging times, emphasizing their collective decision was in the best interest of Brian and the well-being of his family.

The family’s statement, released on Instagram, explained the move as a thoughtful and consultative process involving Brian, his seven children, family friend Gloria Ramos, and medical professionals. It was clarified that the family aimed to maintain stability in the household and ensure ongoing care for Brian and his children who reside at home.

LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers, both long-standing figures in the Wilson family circle, have been entrusted with the role of co-conservators.

The family reassured fans and well-wishers that Wilson would continue to have the freedom to enjoy family, friends, and pursue his creative projects. They also added that Brian could participate in any activities he deemed fit and would remain in his home where longstanding staff members are said to provide care.

According to legal documents reviewed by the Blast, Brian Wilson suffers from a “major neurocognitive disorder,” potentially akin to dementia, which has impaired his ability to independently manage his personal and self-care needs. The documents also note that Wilson is undergoing treatment for his condition.

Brian Wilson’s illustrious career with The Beach Boys has rendered him an iconic figure in the music industry, cherished for his contributions to the world of pop music and revered for his musical genius.
