63% Of Small Businesses Freeze Hiring

  • Alignable, a small-business network, released a survey Sept. 7 showing that 63 percent of small businesses have frozen hiring “because they can’t afford to add staff, and 10% of that group is laying off workers.”
  • The poll surveyed 5,618 small businesses, a significant portion of which say they still have not recovered from the pandemic.
  • The report stated: “This decline is quite significant, as it’s 18 percentage points higher than it was in July (at just 45%). Beyond that, the percentage reducing their staff jumped 6% to 10% this month from just 4% in July.”
