Newsom, California’s Democrat governor, is among the most outspoken in his party about GOP governor’s sending migrants to other states.
The liberal-leaning governor asked for a federal investigation about the possibility of human trafficking violations after DeSantis sent about 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
“Hey [Gov. Ron DeSantis], clearly you’re struggling, distracted, and busy playing politics with people’s lives,” Newsom tweeted. “Since you have only one overriding need – attention – let’s take this up & debate. I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray. Name the time before Election Day.”
Newsom and DeSantis are both running for reelection this year and appear to have 2024 aspirations.
Newsom also has taken a hard-line stance on abortion rights, including a billboard campaign in seven Republican-led states with some of the strictest abortion laws.
