• Newsom, California’s Democrat governor, is among the most outspoken in his party about GOP governor’s sending migrants to other states.
• The liberal-leaning governor asked for a federal investigation about the possibility of human trafficking violations after DeSantis sent about 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
• “Hey [Gov. Ron DeSantis], clearly you’re struggling, distracted, and busy playing politics with people’s lives,” Newsom tweeted. “Since you have only one overriding need – attention – let’s take this up & debate. I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray. Name the time before Election Day.”
• Newsom and DeSantis are both running for reelection this year and appear to have 2024 aspirations.
• Newsom also has taken a hard-line stance on abortion rights, including a billboard campaign in seven Republican-led states with some of the strictest abortion laws.
