- A study by Good Sciencing found that 1,249 healthy young athletes have sudden heart attacks or other serious issues since last year, and 847 of those athletes died.
- This is a huge spike in major medical issues. By comparison, the International Olympic Committee studied data from 1966 to 2004 and found a total 1,101 sudden deaths in athletes under 35 years of age – an average of 29 per year.
